Yuka Kodama-Pomfret began ballet at age three in Japan, training with top dancers and studying at prestigious institutions including the Tokyo Ballet Company, Vaganova Academy (St. Petersburg), and the State Ballet School in Vienna. She performed a wide range of classical and contemporary roles with companies such as the Japan Ballet Association and international guest artists.

After retiring from professional dance, Yuka studied Japanese Linguistics and Literature at Sophia University, and then a Masters in Celtic Studies at the University of Oxford. Now based in Oxford, she teaches ballet privately and for the Oxford University Ballet Society.

Her teaching is rooted in the Russian tradition, particularly the Bolshoi method, passed down through her teachers trained by Sulamith Messerer. Many of her students have gone on to top schools including the Vaganova Ballet Academy, English National Ballet School, Elmhurst Ballet School, Bird College, Urdang, Italia Conti, and London Studio Centre.
